Life beyond Lancaster Environment Centre
Max highlights the skills that he gained whilst studying BSc Geography at undergraduate and from his PgCert in Flood & Coastal Risk Management as fundamental to his current role as a hydraulic modeller. However, Max’s time at Lancaster also saw him develop as a person, making long-lasting friendships, with fond memories of international field-trips to Iceland and Spain.
Studying at Lancaster sparked Catherine’s interest in the water industry, developing her skills in water resource management and beyond, which is now fundamental to her current role as a risk and outperformance manager. However, Catherine also enjoyed extra-curricular activities, which included volunteering at a cheetah sanctuary and volunteering for WaterAid, of which she is still involved in.
Elliot chose to study at Lancaster University after he fell in love with the campus, with its large collegiate community, and because of LEC’s highly regarded nature as a global institution. Whilst studying, Elliot thoroughly enjoyed the variety of modules undertaken, developing his analytical and communication skills which are fundamental in his current job role, whilst he also enjoyed participating in LUSU’s International Cultural Exchange programme.
Katie enjoy the versatility of her BSc Geography degree scheme at Lancaster, constantly learning new skills from a mix of different modules, which included highlights such as the third year trip to Croatia, a before discovering her passion for transport planning. Whilst at university, Katie was an active member if the Lancaster University Dance Society and would wholly recommend students to join!
Lancaster University’s Faculty of Science and Technology’s internships provided Cara with the experience required for her current job role, whilst the flexibility of courses within LEC allowed Cara to develop a broad range of skills, fully preparing her for current role as a Sustainability Analyst.
Kay was attracted to LEC due to its highly ranked Earth Sciences department, particularly enjoying the plethora of field trips and their interactive nature, whilst Kay’s thesis helped her immensely within her current job role, learning how to carefully manage deadlines and write reports. Additionally, Kay also used her spare time at Lancaster to socialise, and volunteer for Nightline.
Joshua’s time at Lancaster began after he fell in love with the university and its surrounding areas, with a particular fondness developed of field trips, particularly when he visited Croatia as part of one, which helped to spark a desire to pursue a career in water management
Elizabeth has put to use the wide variety of skills that she learned at Lancaster University, which, combined with her passion of exploring, saw her most recently working within a charity based in Hong Kong, before undertaking her masters in Social Anthropology later this year.
Lancaster’s study abroad in North America was a fundamental reason as to why Kristina chose to study at Lancaster. After living in Canada, and then completing her undergraduate degree in Geography, Kristina now works within the waste management sector, utilising the skills gained from her degree at Lancaster.
Nicola realised her passion for GIS whilst studying Geography at Lancaster, undertaking modules in each of her three years to continue her development, with her end goal set upon working within the GIS field after she completes her masters course in 2018.
