Lancaster in the Great War: Community memories

During the First World War 1,055 Lancastrians died in uniform. As you walk around the town, almost every street you walk down where the housing dates from this time will have suffered losses. We have good records of these deaths and these pages present information about them. We know less about the men who served but survived, the women who worked in munitions factories, and the people carrying on their every days lives in the town while total war raged across the world. This project is bringing together what we know about the men who died with community memories about all of the others who lived through the war. If you have any information on this we would love to hear from you by email at: greatwar@lancaster.ac.uk
