Undergraduate Degrees
As one of the largest departments of Linguistics in the UK, we offer a wide range of BA (Hons) degrees right across the fields of English Language and Linguistics. Several modules focus on aspects of text and discourse (e.g. Corporate Communication; Discourse Analysis – Looking at Language in Use; Stylistics; The Language of Advertising; Forensic Linguistics).

Masters Programmes
We have an exciting range of postgraduate programmes, both campus-based and by distance. Students benefit from working with staff with international research reputations. Several of our MA modules focus on topics relating to text and discourse (e.g. Introduction to Discourse Studies; Corpus Linguistics; Critical Discourse Analysis; Forensic Linguistics; Language, Literacies and Digital Communication; Pragmatics; Stylistics).

PhD Study
Our doctoral programmes have a history of outstanding, and sometimes award-winning, doctoral theses, both on our PhD Linguistics by Research Only, and on our partially taught PhD in Applied Linguistics by Thesis and Coursework.

Visiting Researchers and PG Students
The department welcomes applications from academic staff or students from other universities who wish to spend a period of up to 12 months at Lancaster to engage in language-related research.
