TOUR FEEDBACK

Global Stories, Local Landmarks: The Glocal Lancaster History Tour 2025

“I’d already participated in a tour very similar to this one, but one thing I found interesting was the general consensus of the group of the ‘SLAVE TRADER’ graffiti on the Lindow memorial, and how it should not be removed. The discussion then expanded into questioning the existence of the memorial itself, as larger memorials are clear indications of prominent people; removing the graffiti would be equivalent to hiding the past again, in a way. (…) I also enjoyed learning little snippets of information, like how St George, the patron Saint of England, was actually born in Turkiye, tangerines got their name from being transported through the port of Tangier, Maroc, and Lancaster, despite being a fairly smaller city, was the 4th largest port for slave trading. For a place so gorgeous and scenic as Lancaster, it really does have quite a devastating history.”
