Combatting Islamophobia: Addressing Causes, Finding Solutions
Amid the controversial publication of the Shawcross review and it’s call to focus more on ‘Islamist’ extremism rather than the increasing threat of the far right, the stripping of Shamima Begum’s British citizenship and informal designation of British Muslims as second-class citizens, the surge in religious hate crimes against Muslims in the UK, and the refusal of the UK government to agree on an official definition, the need to combat Islamophobia is crucial. Join us as we talk to key Muslim organisations, academics and students to provide insights on the issues affecting Muslims in Britain today and how we can best tackle Islamophobia.
Speakers: Sameeha Rafeek, Community Policy Forum, Hamzah Naveed – MEND and Dr Madeline-Sophie Abbas, Lancaster University
