Local landmarks, global stories: the ‘glocal’ Lancaster history tour
18 May, Thursday, 13:45 – 16:00
Lancaster Castle, Lancaster, LA1 1YN
An afternoon guided tour of nine Lancaster city centre locations with Dr Chris Donaldson and Dr Sunita Abraham.
This two-hour walking tour will be led by Dr Chris Donaldson (Lecturer in Cultural History in the Department of History at Lancaster University, and RHC Associate Staff) and Dr Sunita Abraham (Lecturer in Decolonisation, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Lancaster University). The tour will visit nine locations in Lancaster’s historic Castle Quarter and its surroundings. Together we’ll view some of the city’s most iconic sites and landmarks, and consider how Lancaster’s story links with histories that span from the Roman Empire to the British Empire. Along the way, we’ll discuss Lancaster’s involvement in the transatlantic slave trade and contributions to the Industrial Revolution. We’ll also consider how the look and feel of the local environment has changed over the past 1,000 years.
