Waitrose working to encourage sustainable food production
The Waitrose Farm Assessment (WFA) initiative was started by the Waitrose Agronomy Group in 2011. It allows suppliers to assess growers in terms of safety, sustainability and quality.
The initiative was launched following the publication of the Foresight Report on The Future of Food and Farming, which highlighted the challenges of future food production. Working with our suppliers, we are seeking to understand how growers engage with these challenges and how continuous improvement can be measured and managed to provide accurate research data.
The assessment process is not about one farm, one country or one supplier: it’s about the worldwide farming process, and its success lies with the combined effort of many people. We would like to thank all the growers who took part and the suppliers who have worked to bring this initiative to life.
