The University of Nottingham
Nottingham’s first civic college was opened in 1881; awarded its Royal Charter in 1948, becoming the University of Nottingham. International campuses opened in Malaysia in 2000 and China in 2005, and a brand new Vet School at the Sutton Bonington campus, UK, in 2006. A campus in Shanghai has also been proposed. Nottingham is a previous award-winner of University of the Year and Entrepreneurial University of the Year.In the last Research Excellence Framework, the university was ranked seventh in terms of ‘research power’. More than 90% of Nottingham’s research was found to be of an international standard and almost 60 per cent to be ‘world-leading’ or ‘internationally excellent’.
Bangor University
Founded in 1884, Bangor University has a long tradition of excellence, both for academic standards and student experience.Bangor has over 11,000 students and over 650 teaching staff based in 14 Academic Schools grouped into three Colleges. In Bangor Envision is based in the College of Environmental Sciences and Engineering, which is one of the best established UK centres of excellence in key research areas such as ocean, catchment, soil and forest sciences, conservation, and ecology from molecular to ecosystem. A notable feature of Bangor’s research is the high proportion of projects in these areas that are multidisciplinary. The College has 230 PhD students.The national 2014 Research Excellence Framework assessment of research quality shows that more than 75% of research in the College of Environmental Sciences and Engineering is either world-leading or internationally excellent, placing Bangor in the top 20 amongst UK universities in both the subject areas of Environmental Science and Agriculture.
UK Centre for Ecology and Hydrology
The UK Centre for Ecology & Hydrology (UKCEH) is a public-sector research centre – part of the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) – which delivers independent research, survey, training and knowledge transfer in the environmental sciences to advance knowledge of planet Earth as a complex, interacting system.UKCEH conducts independent mission-driven research in support of NERC’s strategic goals and work in close partnership with the scientific community, government departments and agencies, as well as the private sector.UKCEH’s research is aimed at improving understanding of the environment and the processes that support life on Earth with a particular interested in the impacts of human activity on the world around us and in developing ready-to-use approaches for achieving environmental sustainability.
