Undergraduate research experience position in grassland microbial ecology at Lancaster Environment Centre

Paid summer placement opportunity

A funded position is available for an undergraduate student (subject to eligibility, see below) to contribute to a LEC research project during summer 2017. The research will be lead by Dr Kate Buckeridge, with theoretical and practical contributions by the student, and will focus on how grassland carbon sequestration responds to different levels of soil microbial carbon inputs. The work will run from the last week in July until the end of September (flexible), and will be supported by a student stipend of £200 per week supported by the soils training and research studentships (STARS) NERC-BBSRC scheme. This research opportunity will provide the selected student with insight into current ecological research, experience in experimental design, a little bit of local grassland field sampling, and training in soil, microbial and stable isotope methods in the laboratory.

This is an excellent opportunity to gain insight and experience in ecology research methods, grow and develop your CV and professional network, and earn some money in Lancaster over the summer.

If you are interested to apply: send a short (less than one A4 page) letter of motivation to Kate Buckeridge (k.buckeridge@lancaster.ac.uk) by the end of May.

If you need further details, or to discuss the opportunity, please email me.
