A Message from the Doctors within Borders Team

The Doctors within Borders project is a research networking initiative, which was originally designed around opportunities for researchers, activists and practitioners to participate in a series of workshops. The first one took place in January in Lancaster. The Covid-19 pandemic struck as we were in the midst of preparations for the second workshop, which was scheduled for 15 May 2020 in London and was due to explore the theme of Crisis, Data, Borders: Paradoxes of Healthcare Entitlements. This workshop is now postponed.

While the UK lockdown remains in place we are not in a position to indicate when we might reconvene. We are currently looking at a range of possibilities involving a combination of virtual and (possibly) face to face events in the academic year 2020/2021. We will we will post as soon as have details to share.

In the meantime the DwB project remains active, continuing work in a scaled-back format. We are working on publications (including the forthcoming Working Papers Collection from the Lancaster workshop) and research on migrant health and mobility, and the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.

We are grateful to the Wellcome Trust for its flexible approach to extending funded projects, which will enable us to continue our activities beyond the original 12 months and complete the work which we first set out to do under very different conditions.

We are always keen to hear from our network members and anyone interested in our work. Please get in touch!
