Former MSc Volcanologist awarded prestigious fellowship

Mike Cassidy

Congratulations to Dr Mike Cassidy (MSc Volcanology and Geological Hazards, graduated 2009), who has been awarded a prestigious NERC Independent Research Fellowship at the University of Oxford.

Mike followed his Lancaster degree with a PhD at Southampton and a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Mainz.

His current research uses powerful new geochemical tools to investigate the movement of magma beneath volcanoes and help forecast eruptions.

We are thrilled for Mike and the volcanology group will be inviting him to Lancaster to give a seminar to our current MSc students.

Find out more about his research here and follow @mikevolc on Twitter.
