Professor John Quinton is one of two Academic Leads for the N8 AgriFood programme at Lancaster University. He is a Professor of soil science with a particular interest in soil erosion processes and how soils can cause the pollution of surface waters.

Professor Mariana Rufino is the N8 AgriFood Chair at Lancaster University. She is a Professor of Agricultural Systems, combining both biological and environmental sciences in farming systems research with a focus on developing countries, mainly Sub-Saharan Africa.

Professor Ian Dodd is one of two academic leads for the N8 AgriFood programme at Lancaster. He is a Professor of Sustainable Agriculture with research interests in understanding the fundamental mechanisms by which plant root systems communicate the effects of drought to the shoot. This research has been applied to improve crop water use efficiency (“crop per drop”) in aiming to guarantee food production within a changing climate.

Professor Claire Waterton is the N8 AgriFood Lead in Sociology at Lancaster University. Her interests are in the theory and methodological practices of Science and Technology Studies (STS) and in working with these to understand contemporary environmental issues and problems.

Professor Martin Parry is the Theme 1 Lead at Lancaster University. He is a Professor in Plant Science for Food Security with a particular interest in increasing the efficiency of crop production by improved photosynthesis in major crops such as wheat.

Dr Jess Davies is the Theme 2 Lead at Lancaster University. Jess is a Lecturer in Sustainability at the Pentland Centre for Sustainability in Business and a control systems engineer and environmental scientist who is fascinated by the complexity of our natural world and our relationship with it as a society.

Dr Katerina Psarikidou is a N8 AgriFood Knowledge Exchange Fellow and Theme 3 lead at Lancaster University. She is interested in enabling more inclusive processes of agrifood research through the participation of a wider spectrum of agrifood stakeholders, from farmers to local communities. She is a social scientist with experience of working in interdisciplinary research environments. Much of her research has revolved around the sustainability and innovation potential of alternative agro-food systems and practices.

Dr Rachel Marshall is a N8 AgriFood Knowledge Exchange Fellow at Lancaster University. Her interest is in co-designing projects with stakeholders that deliver sustainable and resilient farming systems with a particular focus on soil health and responses to land management. Whilst her PhD training was in soil science she has a particular interest in the complex interactions between society, the environment and policy. She is currently involved in projects ranging from soil health policy, procurement contracts within the Sustainable Food Cities network and RePhoKUs- a multi-disciplinary project looking at re-focusing phosphorus use in the UK food system in order to achieve sustainable phosphorus use and deliver valued ecosystem services.
