IVFDF are running a discord server. Discord is a type and talk system. There’s a societies area on it as well as other bits of information including upcoming festivals.
Registering and logging in
To register on discord go to https://discord.com/register and enter your details.
If you haven’t had an invite to join the IVFDF server please ask us for it.
Names
When you register on discord you choose a username. This stays the same across all servers (as does your profile picture) but you can have a different nickname per server. Please use a name that folk people will recognise you by on the IVFDF server.
To change your nickname the easiest way is to type in the message box at the bottom of a channel: /nick NickName. You can also put images in your nickname, so for Lancaster people you might want to add something that looks like Ducky – to do this you would type /nick :hatched_chick: NickName. You can also change your nickname by finding your name in the list of users down the right hand side and right clicking on it, or by clicking under the dropdown arrow to the right of the IVFDF name at the top left of your screen.
Roles
At the top of the general channel you will find a list of ‘react roles’. Click on Lancaster here to give yourself a Lancaster role. You can also do this by right clicking your name in the list of users and ticking it under roles.
Muting channels/ categories/ the whole server
Channels and categories are listed down the left hand side of your screen. Right clicking on them will give you a mute option for various periods of time. This means you won’t get an audio alert every time somebody posts a message, but if you go to look at the server you will see where the new messages are. You can mute the whole server by right clicking on the server icon at the very left hand side.
