Lancaster’s first Creative Industries Week coming soon

The first ever Creative Industries Week at Lancaster University will run online from Monday 2nd – Friday 6th November.

The programme, arranged by the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences but open to all Lancaster students, will feature a range of talks, question-and-answer sessions and mentoring opportunities.

Topics will include:

  • Publishing and journalism
  • Film, TV and entertainment
  • Theatre and the Arts
  • Advertising, marketing and public relations
  • Screenwriting and storytelling
  • Freelancing
  • Portfolios and CVs

Professionals from companies including Universal Music Group, ITVHuffpost, The Telegraph, and Skiddle will be featured among the speakers. Freelancers, Alumni, and local community organisations will also have special slots to share their stories and showcase their work. Finally, Prof. Dame Sue Black will be finishing the week with a keynote speech discussing the value of creativity and community in a disconnected post-covid world.

This is not your standard careers fair,” said Placements and Internships Officer, Lucy Hutchinson. “There will be no stands, banners and pens. Rather than HR reps and early talent recruiters, we have a specially selected programme of speakers who have faced their own ups and downs, challenges and achievements in their own career history.”

These authentic and inspiring speakers will be sharing their stories with students and offering expert advice through Q+A sessions and mentoring.”

Students who sign up to three of the events on the Lancaster TARGETconnect platform, will also be entered into a prize draw that gives them the chance to win an hour’s mentoring chat with one of the speakers.

Placements and Internships Coordinator, Rosemary Hindley has been working hard to ensure everything runs smoothly with an ambitious programme of speakers who will be presenting sessions entirely through Teams; “We have an amazing range of sessions and speakers lined up for next week. There will be around 20 talks, panels and workshops taking place over the five days, and around 40 speakers who will be showcasing different sectors of the creative industries.”
‘We really hope that creative minded students across the university will make the most of this golden opportunity to learn more about the various career pathways open to them and to meet some of the talented professionals working in them, including many Lancaster University alumni.”
