FASS Internship Scheme: Human Rights and International Relations Researcher

 

**This internship is open exclusively to 2018/19 Richardson Institute Internship Programme participants.**

 

SALAM for Democracy and Human Rights is a civil non-governmental organization observing and promoting human rights in general and human rights in Bahrain in particular. It was set up in 2013 with the aim to promote human rights and democracy issues in the Gulf Region through training, advocacy, networking, action-oriented research, publications and documentation.

Other objectives include:

  • Coordinating a plan between the participating organizations to stop Shia persecution
  • Creating a working group to counter the plans in place to cleanse Shia from Bahrain
  • Creating a working group to realize proper citizenship rights to the Shia in Bahrain
  • Organising a lobby group to defend Bahraini Shias rights

Main Duties

  • Complete background research and project ideas on areas of potential interest for Salam DHR

Skills Required

  • An interest in international relations and human rights;
  • Background and/or interest in conflict studies, geopolitics, geo-economics and any of the other subjects mentioned above;
  • Ability to carry out research independently and come up with new ideas;
  • Aptitude to write in a structured and succinct manner;
  • To be confident with their computer skills, particularly with excel and the handling of information.
  • To be willing to relocate to London for the full duration of their placement

Important Information

  • The rate of pay is £9.20 (including holiday pay) for 140 hours / 4 weeks at 35 hours per week.
  • Salam DHR are based in London. The successful candidate will be responsible for arranging their accommodation and/or travel costs during their internship. Financial support for travel/accommodation expenses can be sought from the Lancaster University Careers team by applying for the Summer Work Experience Bursary.
