SMARTS Researchers to Organize Session at INFORMS Annual Meeting 2025

We are pleased to announce that SMARTS researcher will organize a session on “Innovative Approaches to Efficient Airspace Management” at the upcoming 2025 INFORMS Annual Meeting, taking place October 26-29 in Atlanta, Georgia.

The session will bring together leading experts in airspace management to present cutting-edge methodologies addressing the growing challenges in aviation traffic control and airspace utilization. From mathematical optimization models to data-driven approaches, this collection of presentations will showcase diverse perspectives on creating more efficient, safe, and adaptable airspace systems.

Chaired by Go Nam Lui, the session features four presentations covering critical aspects of modern airspace management:

• 3D Optimal Airspace Sector Design with Mixed Integer Linear Programming presented by Go Nam Lui
• Functional Data Analysis in Flight Trajectory Clustering presented by Guglielmo Lulli
• Efficient Continuous Descent Approach under Communication Uncertainties for Autonomous Aviation presented by Yutian Pang (The University of Texas at Austin)
• Data-Driven Airspace Management for UAV-Based Building and Infrastructure Assessment presented by Botao Li (Georgia Institute of Technology)

This session represents an important opportunity to showcase SMARTS research alongside international colleagues at one of the world’s premier operations research and analytics conferences, where more than 6,000 academic and industry professionals will gather to share advances in the field.

The 2025 INFORMS Annual Meeting will be held at the Georgia World Congress Center and the Omni Atlanta Hotel at Centennial Park, focusing on the theme “Smarter Decisions for a Better World.”
