GISMO kicks off 2021 events programme

GISMO Event

The GISMO Team have started 2021 off smart, with two successful events in February and a third planned for March.

On Friday 5th February we hosted Coatings – we’ve got it covered, with Professor Rob Short, Director of the Materials Science Institute at Lancaster University. Prof. Short explored the use of functional coatings for medical devices and life science. The seminar discussed two case studies of products developed from research in this area: myskin™, a cell delivery patch for severe burns and non-healing wounds; and Purecoat™, an advanced cell culture surface designed for cell therapy. You can access the slides from this webinar here and we are currently working on making a recording available.

The following week, GISMO teamed up with Made Smarter to discuss the latest thinking and techniques in additive manufacturing in Business briefing: the case for additive manufacturing. GISMO Innovation Fellow Armin Yousefi Kanani gave a talk focusing on the technology perspective of 3D printing, followed by a tour of the world-class facilities at Lancaster University’s Engineering Building. This was followed by a panel discussion with researchers, engineers and advisers, who discussed techniques and materials; skills, design and lifecycle implications; return on investment and how to make the business case for using additive manufacturing. You can catch up with this webinar and the panel discussion on our YouTube channel.

Our next webinar, on Friday 26th March, will explore The need for new alloys in additive manufacturing, delivered by Professor of Advanced Manufacturing Pedro Rivera. More details about the event will be announced soon. Click here to book your place now!
