Facilities

GISMO gives you access to the state-of-the-art facilities and equipment of the Materials Science Institute at Lancaster University.

cTAP Building

Chemistry

Our Chemistry facilities, based in cTAP, contain dedicated synthetic, physical, analytical and biological research laboratories, as well as computer-based labs for our Chemical Theory and Computation researchers. Labs are equipped with state-of-the-art spectroscopic and analytical instrumentation, as well as gloveboxes, fume hoods, and a variety of computational equipment.

Engineering Building

Engineering

The Department of Engineering houses a wide range of state-of-the-art facilities for providing an in-depth understanding of the applied and fundamental aspects of functional materials, composite systems, structural health modelling, and production processes and technologies.

IsoLab

Physics

Within the Department of Physics, the Quantum Technology Centre and clean room offer state-of-the-art facilities for nanoscale device fabrication and characterisation. Our Ultra-Low Temperature labs allow us to cool materials to some of the lowest temperatures ever recorded on Earth. Our recently opened IsoLab is one of the quietest measurement environments in the world.
