Theme 2 – Technology and bodies

Welcome to our SECOND theme!

In this theme, we will explore the relationships between technology and ‘the body’ in two ways. First, by paying attention to a variety of intersecting identities (in terms of gender, race, disability) and how technology and these mutually shape one another (part 1). Then, by exploring ways we can rethink the ‘boundary’ between technology and the body (part 2).

For our second theme you have a number of tasks to do:

Part 1

• • Watch a couple of narrated powerpoints and do a quiz (2 hours)
  • Read an annotated paper (2 hours – less if you skip pages 85 through 89)
  • Go to Mural to work on examples of the relationship between technology & society (2 hours max)
  • As a group, prepare “talking points” that you will use for the Week 5 seminar discussion (2 hours)

Part 2

• • Watch a narrated powerpoint (1 hour)
  • Watch a short video (1 hour – this is optional)
  • Read an annotated paper (2 hours)
  • Identify examples that illustrate the boundaries between technology and the body and discuss these with your group on Mural (2 hours)

Don’t forget to assess/give feedback to the 2 short essays that were assigned to you over on Moodle! (1h)
