Ángela Franco

Co-investigator Ángela Franco is an Architect from the Universidad Nacional de Colombia, graduate in Urban Planning from the École Supérieure d’Architecture de Marseille, MSc in Sociology from the Universidad del Valle and PhD in Architecture from University of Cambridge. She was awarded with the HHH/Fulbright Fellowship to be part of the Special Program of Urban and Regional Studies at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). She is an Associate Professor at the School of Architecture at the Universidad del Valle in Colombia since 2005, where she was Pro-Vice Chancellor for Research between 2013 and 2015. She currently leads the Research Group “Observatory of Contemporary Architecture and Urbanism” and her projects are mainly focused on urban marginality, informal settlements, city planning and housing policies. One of her books regarding socio-spatial impacts of urban renewal in downtowns received an award from the National Council  of Architecture in Colombia as best academic research in architecture.
