Symposium: Outreach without Borders (Friday, May 11)

The purpose of the symposium is to bring together academics and professional services to discuss challenges and opportunities in science outreach and widening participation. The symposium will feature presentations on innovative science outreach initiatives for children, adolescents and adults that are based in the UK or abroad. Presenters will reflect on their experience – what worked and what didn’t. We will conclude with a Round Table to discuss the way ahead.

The symposium schedule and list of speakers can be found on this page.

Participation is free of charge (and includes coffee, tea and pastéis de nata…) but there is a limited number of spaces and prior registration is required. Please follow this link to register for the symposium by Monday, May 7, 2018.

Workshops: Native Explorers (Saturday, May 12)

For the Native Explorers workshops, we are bringing to campus heritage learners of Portuguese from the greater Manchester/Lancashire region.  On campus, students will be divided into groups to attend four science workshops in different fields: astrophysics, chemical engineering, plant biology and social entrepreneurship. The workshops, offered in Portuguese, will be delivered by leading Lancaster University researchers. Throughout the day, students will have the opportunity to complete a challenge and the group scoring highest for this challenge will receive a prize. The detailed program for this event is available here.

If your child is between 12 and 15 years and speaks Portuguese, you are can register via https://nativexplorers.eventbrite.co.uk.
