The Wellcome Library is one of the world’s major resources for the study of the history of medicine. It also has a growing collection of contemporary materials covering consumer health, popular science, biomedical ethics, and the public understanding of science.
The Library holds over 750,000 books and journals, and an extensive collection of manuscripts, archives, films, and over 250,000 pictures. The collections have been awarded ‘Designated’ status by the Museum, Libraries, and Archives Council which signifies their national and international importance. The Library is free and open to the public.
