Internship Opportunity: Social Media and Marketing Internship

**This internship opportunity is exclusively available to current UG/PG students studying within the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at Lancaster University**

Deco Publique is looking for an intern to join our growing team on a temporary basis to join us as we make preparations for the delivery of 2019’s programme of cultural works. The core internship role will be to work across our social platforms and websites for Deco Publique and National Festival of Making, helping to build our networks and audiences.

The intern will work with Deco Publique, a creative practice based by the sea in Morecambe. Their work is about place and experience, working creatively and operationally across mass and intimate cultural festivals and events and commissioning new original artwork that transforms seaside spaces, rural landscapes, waterfronts and northern cities.

This role will last for a total of 70 hours, which can be carried out between 1 to 2 days per week (based on the final candidates availability) with remote working agreeable with the right candidate, starting in late November and concluding in early spring 2019 (or whenever total hours are spent, whichever is soonest).  We can offer flexible days and times to suit both the organisation and the candidate to fall within our office hours (Monday to Friday, 9am – 5pm) and to be agreed prior to starting work.  Once the role is established remote working may be offered.

Main Duties

Your role may include the tasks such as the following but responsibilities will be flexible based on the candidate’s skills and suitability. Mentoring and support will be provided.

  • Basic use of camera phone photography for Instagram and Facebook
  • Understanding the social media audiences accessing content across our platforms – twitter, Instagram and Facebook
  • Creating posts for social media that build interest to our events and project work
  • Building audiences for the event pages through creative sharing, research into Facebook, Instagram & Twitter groups plus sharing and interacting with niche groups who may be interested in the post
  • Writing short blog posts about our work and the creative people and products engaged in our events and projects
  • Helping research and build press databases
  • Compiling press links that our work has achieved
  • Assisting with organising and uploading event photos onto an online platform
  • Attending site visits, events, meetings or locations when appropriate to document and share on social media to interact with audiences and build interest in current and forthcoming work
  • Supporting the team to update the Deco Publique and Festival of Making website
  • Supporting the launch of the new Art in Manufacturing website
  • Supporting the creation of the new Art in Manufacturing Instagram page

Requirements

Overall we are looking for an enthusiastic, professional, communicative and friendly individual who is easy going and comfortable working in a small, fast moving team. We will take time to teach and help you learn how to carry out the work we give you, but we admire resourcefulness and individuals who find ways around problems they encounter – which can be a big part of working in festivals!

A significant interest in cultural industries, festivals and social media marketing, especially is essential – prior experience of engaging with social media is a professional context is advantageous. We place great importance on making all our events and projects visually pleasing with great attention to detail – so we are looking for candidates who put value on this in the same we do.

You must:

  • Be proficient in social media promotion – good understanding of using Facebook, Instagram and Twitter
  • Have your own laptop and smartphone to bring and use in the office
  • Be able to organise transport to the Morecambe based office (which is next to the train station and has parking available)

Rate of Pay: £8.78 per hour (including holiday pay)
