As a student studying History at University, I have been challenged when trying to get work experience by the fact my degree is not industry specific. As such, I was absolutely thrilled to be offered the opportunity to intern at the PR agency, Street & Co. For me, this recruitment process was one of unexpected surprise when I finally secured the role as, although I have had a few marketing related work experience weeks, I have not yet been able to enter the PR sector. Consequently I was very nervous for my first interview over Skype, particularly when on the day I was told that I needed an answer as to what was my favourite PR campaign. Overall, I felt parts of the interview went well particularly when I was discussing big ideas and the industry. But I was a bit disappointed with myself during other sections concerning personal skills as I think I struggle to articulate why I am the right person for the job. It was definitely a useful experience, though, as I have never done a Skype interview before and did not know quite what to expect.  It was also good general interview practice and has helped me to become familiar with the types of questions that employers ask.

Following the Skype interview, I was passed through to the final stage, a phone interview with the director of Street & Co. This was a lot less formal however, and was more a chat about my degree and the company itself. I really enjoyed this stage of recruitment process, as it allowed me to understand more about Street & Co, and I think I am perhaps calmer in situations over the phone rather than Skype. Ultimately, I was offered the internship and am due to be working for four weeks during July. I am lucky enough to be able to commute in to London from my home address by train using a monthly railcard. I am really looking forward to starting, and am hoping to be a valuable member of their team.
