Researcher Invite: Researcher Concordat at Lancaster

Dear colleagues,

As researchers or managers of researchers, you will be aware that the University is a signatory of the New Concordat to Support the Career Development of Researchers. (Researcher Development Concordat)

The Concordat sets out three clear Principles:

  1. environment and culture
  2. employment
  3. professional and career development

These themes are highlighted through various institutional markers such as, REF, Athena SWAN etc. and are often used to benchmark with other institutions when applying for grants.

These principals are underpinned by obligations for the four key stakeholder groups, funders, institutions, researchers and managers of researchers.

The Lancaster Concordat Implementation Group (CIG) is looking for a small and diverse group of volunteers from the last three stakeholder groups, e.g. researchers and research managers, and the Institution to explore this agenda further:

To consider the results from the recent CEDARS survey, highlighting any areas of particular interest or concern.

To conduct a gap analysis between the current Human Resources Excellence in Research (HREiR) action plan and the new Concordat.

To recommend improvements to the Code of Practice for the Development of Research Staff.

To share good practice from across the institution

Expectations

We have scheduled three meetings on:

Monday 16th November, 4-5pm

Thursday 3rd December, 11am-12:30pm

Monday 14th December, 10:30-11:30am

The first meeting will establish the group and set aims and realistic objectives and discuss the CEDARS survey report.

The second will be focussing on a gap analysis, with the final meeting bringing together good practice from across the institution and to explore new ideas, to form recommendations for the Concordat Implementation Group (CIG).

There will be documents and data to read prior to these meetings so that we can keep them focussed on key points and actions.

If you or a colleague would be interested in joining this small working group then please contact OED directly. OED@lancaster.ac.uk.

Please do share this with your researcher communities and networks and those interested in making a difference for the research community.

Kind regards

Jean
