Explanations and Solutions: Discussing the Data Acquisition Form

  • This page will explain in more detail each sub-section of the data acquisition form and the type of information that is required.

Explaining the data acquisition form:

Project Title:

  • The title of the project.

Creator Name:

  • The author/ entity primarily responsible for conducting / writing the project.

Date:

  • Project submission date.

Collection:

  • What methodology collection does the project fall under.
  • State one from the following list or specify a collection term.
    • Behavioural observations
    • EEG
    • Eye tracking
    • Focus group
    • Interviews
    • Linguistic analysis
    • Questionnaire-based study
    • Ratings
    • Reaction Time and accuracy
    • Secondary analysis
    • Think-aloud

Abstract:

  • Copy and paste the abstract of the project.

Keywords:

  • Typically this is 3-5 keywords that describe the project’s topics.
  • List the keywords with a comma separating each keyword for clarity.

Method:

  • Copy and paste the method of the project.
  • Include the following sub-sections to provide as much information about the project:
    • Participants
    • Materials
    • Procedure
    • Data Analysis

Format of Data:

  • A description of the data files. For example:
    • SPSS file would be written as Data/ SPSS.sav
    • Excel file would be written as Data/Excel.csv
    • Word Document would be written as Text/Word.doc
    • Nvivo file would be written as Text/Nvivo
    • Analysis Scripts would be written as Analysis/r_file.R or Analysis/SPSS.sps

Rights:

Relation:

  • If the project relates to another project (piece of work), please state what project it relates to.
  • For example;
    • A group project 
    • A follow up on previous research

Type:

  • The type of data collected in the project. For example:
    • Data
    • Text
    • Speech

Language:

  • The default language of the project will be interpreted as English‘.
  • BUT, if the project incorporates other languages, please state this. For example:
    • ‘The Difference between English and Spanish use of Metaphors’, the languages would be considered as ‘English‘ and ‘Spanish‘.

Coverage:

  • The institution’s (University’s) postcode to help identify where the data came from.

Supervisor Name:

  • Name of the project supervisor.

Project Level:

  • State whether the project is at the ‘Undergraduate‘ or ‘Masters‘ level.

Topic:

  • State all the sub-categories of Psychology that the project fall under.

Common Problems and Solutions:

Problem 1:

  • I have filled out all the information on the LUSTRE system and uploaded a consent form, but when I press ‘Add Item’ it says ‘Error’ “.

Solution:

  • The blank consent form needs to be uploaded as a ‘.doc’ not a ‘.docx’ file, otherwise it will not upload and it will appear that there has been an ‘Error’. If this is not possible then the consent form needs to be uploaded as a ‘pdf’ file.

Problem 2:

  • How do I access the webpage to upload the item record I’ve been working on?”

Solution:

  • You will be provided with an address (URL) to access the administrative pages of the system, along with relevant login information. Please check the resources you have been provided with for the activity.
