Morecambe Bay Timescapes

Morecambe Bay Timescapes is an interdisciplinary project involving researchers in Design, Computing, and Environmental Science working with young people in Morecambe Bay to develop visions of hyperlocal coastal futures.

Young people conducted fieldwork observations, archival research, and prototypes based on climate modelling to create visions of coastal futures. These visions were presented at a final exhibition where young people presented their ideas to a panel of experts in climate futures, coastal processes, environmental issues, and local history.

The visions produced by young people were edited into 3D stereographic images that can be viewed through a custom designed stereoscope (a very analogue VR tool!). The timescape set has now been used in many events and exhibitions.
