Internship: Reducing Packaging Waste

Internship – Researching How to Reduce Packaging Waste

Can you help a company to reduce packaging waste and meet environmental regulations?

P.E.T.A.L are an agent/trader in hardwoods & clear grade softwoods based in Lancaster. They distribute and import from USA, Europe, South America, Far East and Africa, as well as selling to UK importers and merchants and large end users.

The company wants to be at the forefront of managing their environmental obligations including meeting current legislation regarding waste packaging. They are aware that their current waste packaging requirements are not stringent enough and as the business grows, requirements will increase and they want to ensure that they are able to keep up to date with legislation. Improved waste management will lead to greater energy efficiency and therefore potentially save the company money.

This internship will involve an initial audit of the current waste packaging management and practices at the company. The successful candidate will also need to research current environmental legislation governing waste packaging. Based on the research the aim of the project is to produce recommendations which can form the basis of a manual to ensure the company improves its waste management practices in line with legislation.

Though the company is based in Lancaster there is an opportunity to complete this work independently at the University or home.

A total of 140 hours is available to complete this work. This project is part funded by the European Regional Development Fund.
