FASS Internship Vacancy: Sales and Marketing Assistant

Founded in 1969 by Michael Schmidt, Carcanet is an award-winning literary publisher with a comprehensive list of modern and classic poetry in English and translation, inventive fiction and non-fiction. A live backlist of some 900 titles includes literature from 37 languages and 50 nations.  Celebrated authors include Nobel Prize-winners Orhan Pamuk, Octavio Paz, Jose Saramago, Joseph Brodsky and Czeslaw Milosz and many outstanding discoveries from around the world. Carcanet also publishes the magazine PN Review six times a year. It is run by a full-time staff of six.

Main Duties

The candidate will be under the direction of the Sales and Marketing Managers and their main duties will include but not be limited to:

  • Assisting with public engagement through all Carcanet’s social media channels by posting news and reviews, and promoting events and book launches, special offers and sales (including Carcanet’s subscription service with Exact Editions), PN Review content and video content, and general marketing of titles
  • Creating content for the weekly e-letter and blog
  • Creating sales material including review slips, order forms, event invites and showcards
  • Scanning and filing press cuttings
  • Assisting with content management on book data systems
  • Completing any other tasks which arise during the course of employment (including those from other departments)

Skills Required

Essential

  • Ability to work both in a team and individually, and maintain a professional attitude towards colleagues and clients, timekeeping and adherence to Carcanet’s office practices (both formal and informal)
  • Well-developed communication skills and a strong understanding of the English language, both written and verbal
  • Meticulous attentiveness to detail but able to meet deadlines
  • A passion for and general knowledge of literature
  • Working knowledge of social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Youtube and Pinterest
  • Working knowledge of all basic Microsoft Office packages

Desirable

  • Experience with InDesign and Photoshop
  • Experience/familiarity with social media tools including TweetDeck and Facebook Publishing

Tools

  • Experience/familiarity with Mailchimp and Blogger
  • A passion and/or interest in poetry
