Internship Vacancy: Bridging Connections Research Assistant x 2

We are seeking to appoint two enthusiastic researchers to work on a Higher Education Funding Council for England (Hefce) funded project that will explore when, how and whether Criminology students make links between their academic knowledge and work-related learning. The project, led by Dr Sarah Kingston at Lancaster University and Dr Mary Corcoran at Keele University, will lead to the development of pedagogical tools that will support Criminology students to better connect their academic studies to work-related learning.

Duties will include transcribing focus groups, maintaining confidentiality, assisting with the analysis of survey data, compiling a list of criminology contacts nationally and internationally, supporting dissemination activities and other duties as appropriate.

This internship is suitable for social sciences and law students where study has enabled the development of research methods skills.

 

Main Duties

To contribute to the work of the Principle Investigator (Sarah Kingston) and Research Associate in:

  1. Internet-based research, literature research
  2. Data transcription, analysis and presentation
  3. Survey data administration

Skills Required

  • Research and analytical skills
  • Ability to summarise and synthesise information
  • Common sense, determination, ability to think laterally
  • A good working knowledge of IT
  • Ability to work independently and to deadlines
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Awareness and understanding of sensitive issues

Important Dates

Start date          Ideally Week Commencing 5th February (flexible)

End date            Flexible

Closing date:      Monday 15th January 2018.

Interview date:  Monday 22nd January 2018.

Benefits

  • Rate of pay £8.41 per hour inclusive of holiday pay for 140 hours.
  • Minimum weekly commitment is flexible but ideally at least 7 hours / 1 full day per week.
