Lancaster Arts is seeking to appoint an individual to work directly with their doorstep communities to encourage and help facilitate engagement at all levels. This will involve meeting new people and approaching groups to act as an engaged and animated advocate for Lancaster Arts within the wider student community and elsewhere, primarily across campus. The successful candidate will also play a role in facilitating the smooth delivery of events. This will include providing support with the promotion, launch and delivery of key events.

This is an exciting opportunity for a bright individual to use their own initiative and provide creative ideas. The role is ideally suited to a friendly and confident person aiming to develop a career in the culture industry or any of the following areas: marketing, events management, volunteer coordination, contemporary art, theatre, arts management, front of house and venue management. 

Main Duties

  • Develop relationships with key society representatives, Faculty, LUSU and Colleges to encourage students to engage with the work and opportunities within Lancaster Arts
  • To contribute and enact creative ideas to promote Lancaster Arts events to students on and off campus
  • Work as part of the team to ensure that events are produced and delivered to the highest possible standard
  • To take an active role on social media networks (Facebook, Twitter and Instagram) promoting Lancaster Arts events and opportunities
  • Liaise with individual campus colleges and their associated JCR representatives to encourage new first year students to attend the events and generally create a wider awareness and knowledge about the work of Lancaster Arts
  • In conjunction with the Engagement Manager and Marketing & Communications Manager research relevant organisations/societies/groups that might be interested in specific Lancaster Arts events and personally contact group leaders
  • Keep clear and effective records of activity and compile effective databases of contacts
  • Support with matching, induction and training of volunteers
  • Monitoring, supporting and motivating volunteers where appropriate
  • Evaluation of activity and processes
  • To carry out day-to day administrative tasks to support Lancaster Arts colleagues
  • Any other duties commensurate with the role including Font of House and box office duties

 

Specific Requirements

  • A clear understanding of the work of Lancaster Arts and an appropriate rationale and interest in applying for the role
  • Must be confident in approaching and engaging with new networks and stakeholders
  • Excellent communication, presentation and interpersonal skills
  • Good working knowledge of IT & social media
  • Ability to work independently and to deadlines
  • Initiative, enthusiasm and a problem-solving approach to new challenges
  • Systematic and efficient, including an ability and willingness to prioritise, manage and complete a variety of tasks

Desirable

  • Good existing networks within the wider student community
  • Good existing networks within the wider Lancaster city centre area and beyond
  • Experience of working or volunteering in an arts environment
  • Experience of the voluntary sector either through volunteering or leading volunteers
Rate of pay: £8.41 per hour inclusive of holiday pay for 140 hours.
This is part of the FASS Internship Scheme and this opportunity is open to all students studying withing the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences.
