Whether you’re an undergrad or a post grad, first year or final year, and regardless of your degree background, if you have an idea for a business, project or social enterprise, we can help you to get started.
You might dream of running your own company, or you might want to create an event or campaign on campus. You might even be looking to work on your enterprise skills to improve your employability; whatever your motivations, engaging in enterprise activities whilst at University will give you greater control of your career options and allows you to apply your knowledge and skills in an innovative way.
If you’d like to get involved in some of the things the Enterprise Team does, take a look at what’s on offer for 2016/17.
IDEASLABS
If you have an idea and want to test it, or bring it to life, bring it to an IdeasLab. If you have no idea and want to learn techniques for ideas generation, creative thinking and problem-solving, come along to an IdeasLab, held every Wednesday from 2pm-4pm in the Learning Zone.
STARTUPLAB
If you have a new venture or want to start one, either as a freelancer or a founder, come to a StartupLab, held every Thursday from 10:30am-12.30pm.
FUNDING ENTERPRISING IDEAS
If you have an idea for a business or other initiative, or if you’d like support to test an idea, apply for up to £500 from the Lancaster University Enterprise Fund.
T1 (GRADUATE ENTREPRENEUR) VISA
Lancaster University’s overseas students who are interested in starting a business in the UK after they graduate need to obtain the T1 (Graduate Entrepreneur) Visa. This visa issued by the Home Office is dependent on an endorsement from the University of a robust business plan.
COMPETITIONS & EVENTS
We regularly advertise local, national and sometimes international, competitions and events giving you the opportunity to pitch for big cash prizes and invaluable business support, or improve your team building and leadership skills.
MENTORING
For students starting a commercial or social venture, being mentored by someone more experienced can be invaluable and a mentoring relationship provides a space for shared experiences, development, networking and confidence building opportunities.
ENTREPRENEURS IN RESIDENCE
If you’re not ready for a mentor, but you would like to meet a local business owner with real life experience and lessons to share, we can connect you with the University’s Entrepreneurs in Residence. Contact us for more information about the entrepreneurs, and their available dates.
