Dr Mal McMillan

Mal is a Co-Director of CEEDS and a Reader in Environmental Sensing at Lancaster University. His research focuses on studying Earth’s polar regions, and in particular in the use of novel satellite instruments for assessing the contribution of Earth’s ice sheets to global sea level rise.

With the ever-increasing volumes and complexity of satellite data, he is passionate about the need to integrate Environmental and Data Science in order to fully unlock the potential that these data hold.

Within CEEDS, Malcolm is particularly interested in the Data Acquisition & Infrastructure, Data Science Methods, and Ice/Water Themes.

Professor Paula Harrison

Paula is a Co-Director of CEEDS and a Professor of Land and Water Modelling and Principal Natural Capital Scientist at the Centre for Ecology & Hydrology.

Her research focuses on the development and application of different types of simulation models for investigating the impacts of climate and socio-economic change, including process-based models, agent-based models, statistical models and emulators.

Paula’s particular interests lie in the design and implementation of integrated models that link together multiple land and water-related sectoral models to assess interdependencies, synergies and trade-offs related to the sustainable management of socio-ecological systems. This includes the investigation of uncertainty associated with scenario and model development and application, including attribution and propagation of uncertainty in integrated modelling.

Within CEEDS, Paula is particularly interested in Complex Systems, Land/Soil, Data Science Methods and Decision-Making under Uncertainty Themes.
