Celebrate midsummer in a magical, open-air performance in Lancaster Castle 19-21 June 2014. Rugs and picnic hampers can be ordered in advance or bring your own. Tickets £20.00; concessions; £10 (children, students; senior citizens).
Spend a magical, midsummer night at Lancaster Castle amidst an open-air production of Shakespeare’s comedy. Theseus, the Duke of Athens and Hippolyta, the Amazonian Queen are due to marry in four days but the course of true love never does run smooth. The crazy tangle of desire between the young lovers Hermia, Lysander, Helena and Demetrius in Athens becomes even more fantastic when the action moves to the fairy realm of the wood. Here, King Oberon and Queen Titania are at odds, the mischievous hobgoblin Puck is let loose with a magical love potion, and Bottom the weaver is transformed into an ass, in the middle of rehearsing a play with his friends. Colour, passion, song and dance are allowed to run free in Shakespeare’s carnival celebration of midsummer madness. Come along with your rug and picnic (and waterproofs) to sit informally on the grass and join in the fun. For those who do need a chair, please contact us when you book online or by leaving a message on the box office line 0787 977 3049 so that we can arrange this for you. For that extra special touch, hampers and champagne can be ordered in advance from NICE at the Castle (01524) 848525.
