Ridge Community Primary School

We were greeted by an enthusiastic and energetic group of Year 5 pupils at Ridge Community Primary. Focusing on A Midsummer Night’s Dream, the pupils worked well on close textual analysis before coming into their own in the practical activities.

Beginning with voice work in walking through a soliloquy pupils quickly grasped the changes of direction in a character’s train of thought and felt comfortable reading it aloud as a group.

Splitting into smaller groups, the pupils set about creating a performance to perform back to the rest of the class. The pupils thrived and really came into their own with creative and imaginative interpretations of the text. They were a pleasure to work with.

A further workshop with Year 6 pupils on Romeo and Juliet concentrated on the fight scene between Mercutio, Romeo and Tybalt. Using school dinner knives and slow-motion action, the pupils got a tangible sense of the powerful, intrinsic bonds between love and hate in the play.
