A webinar series by Lancaster University’s Department of Linguistics and English Language.

What can linguistics, the scientific study of language, tell us about literature and about Shakespeare? What role can it play in public health emergencies? Can you learn English as a second language during maths classes? Is there a darker side to multilingualism? How do you work with teenagers to study language at home and in school?

All these questions will be addressed in New and Established Voices in the Study of Language, a series of free online talks by established as well as new researchers at Lancaster University’s Department of Linguistics and English Language.

They will take place on MS Teams on Wednesdays from 13:00 to 14:00 in May and June 2022.

Each session will feature two short talks aimed primarily at students in their final years of school, such as Year 10 to 13 students in the UK. Other people fascinated by the topics are welcome to join the sessions too, of course!

If you are interested, please register for each talk that you wish to attend separately, using the links in the programme. After registration, you will receive a confirmation email that will also provide details on how to access the webinar. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to get in touch via linguistics@lancaster.ac.uk!

You can also check out the previous seminar series webpage Talking of Language, Recordings from past seminar series are available on the Lancaster University’s Schools Resource Hub and the Lingusitics and English Language YouTube channel.
