Development: Policy Implications June 2023

On 20th June 2023, the project team will share the research findings with the key stakeholders to outline the implications of the findings for future policy design.

I-Connect project capstone event welcomed insights from local policy makers, entrepreneurs and community groups who were united by passion for change for better through inclusive innovation in our beautiful county of Lancashire. The key actions that this committed group outlined were related to the Greenway path and surrounding infrastructure. The multi-stakeholder teams synthetized the data insights into the following actions:

  1. Take this conversation outside of this room – engage with the communities and get a wider buy in from policy makers getting the right people involved
  2. Local, sustainable and meaningful greenery to enhance our well-being – enable more inspirational and inclusive experiences
  3. Establishing footpath zones that would allow for stronger identity of the footpath enhancing sense of pride and heritage
  4. Contextual signage that is inclusive for diversity of users and brings the footpath to life
  5. Address litter issues that lead to feeling of fear and apprehension in certain areas of the path
  6. Enhanced integration of cycle paths with city infrastructure and stronger links between the Greenway and other paths
  7. Develop a new narrative for our place – capturing local stories to create a cohesive community engagement that can promote the stories of our rich cultural and industrial history; bringing more visual art to the footpath in order to revive our “stranded asset”
