Vision
The Doctorate in Clinical Psychology endeavours to equip trainees with the experiences and competencies required to maximise the psychological (and physical) well-being of the communities they, and we, serve. Central to that service is to uphold the NHS Constitution.
We value every person as an individual, respect their aspirations and commitments in life, and seek to understand their priorities, needs, abilities and limits. We also recognize that individuals thrive within communities, and that we are beholden to all members of our communities, not just those who currently access NHS services.
The programme seeks to work beyond NHS policy, to also address health and social care policy, in recognition of the wider role of clinical psychologists in NHS and non-NHS settings. Our aim is for trainees to become qualified clinicians who: challenge traditional ways of working and look for new solutions; continually challenge their own assumptions and those of others; and strive for academic excellence.
Values
- Respect and Dignity for Each Other and Clients (assume best in people, respect for history)
- Reaching Standards of Competence (core purpose to protect vulnerable members of the public)
- Compassion for All (self, others, peers, staff, supervisors, clients and systems)
- Improving Lives (using our competence, power, voices, to improve individuals’ lives and systems)
- Everyone Counts and is Accountable (inclusivity and accountability)
Strategic Priorities 2024/2025
- To increase rates of timely completion of the programme.
- To take action to diversify the profession and practice of Clinical Psychology.
- To meet the standards of our regulatory bodies – updating processes in line with the updated HCPC standards of proficiency, and preparing for BPS accreditation
