We were delighted to be invited to deliver a session on a Teacher Subject Day for the Princes Training Institute (PTI) on 7th March 2020. Dana Gablasova will be speaking on how to use corpus linguistics and BNClab to teach about language change (see the abstract below).

How to use corpus linguistics to teach about language change?This session will introduce the participants to the corpus method of linguistic analysis and demonstrate how it can be used to study changes in the English language over the course of last twenty years. We will look at the effect of social factors such as gender, class and age in the process of language change. The session will offer a practical demonstration of a new tool (BNClab) that allows teachers to easily implement the corpus method in the classroom. Corpus-based teaching materials will be provided that were designed to engage students with discovery-based learning and with recent research findings.
