As part of our research, three photovoice projects will be conducted in Indonesia, Scotland, and Seychelles. These communities have been chosen because their countries or nations have all adopted blue economy strategies. They are geographically and culturally diverse and are thus potentially representative of a diversity of experiences.
Photovoice is an innovative method used for community-based participatory research, whereby participants document their own engagement and experience with the subject investigated. The use of photo elicitation presents advantages when discussing emotional topics, or topics with a strong visual element, or when working with participants who may be intimidated by a more formal setting or who may struggle to formulate ideas.
