Principal Investigator

Dr Celine Germond-Duret

I am a Lecturer in Environmental Politics and Policy, with interests in sustainability, marine policy and the blue economy, international climate politics, and Indigenous Peoples. My projects have explored the media and public communication about the sea, as well as young people’s sense of place in relation to the coastal and marine environment (PI on the British Academy/Leverhulme project “SeaSights: Seaside towns and insights from young people”). My research appeared in Development and Change; Environment, Development and Sustainability; Marine Policy; Third World Quarterly; Sustainable Development; Science of the Total Environment, among others. I co-edited a special issue on (In)justice and the Blue Economy published in The Geographical Journal; an edited volume on Blue Economy: People and Regions in Transitions (Routledge, 2023); and I co-authored the “blue economy” entry for the International Encyclopedia of Geography (Wiley-AAG). I am a Member of the Office for Environmental Protection College of Experts.

Research Associate

Dr Senia Febrica

I am a Research Associate on Ocean Justice and the Blue Economy. My research focuses on understanding the interlinkages between security and development at sea and coastal regions in Southeast Asia. It pays special attention to Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore and the Philippines’s approaches to ocean security and governance, blue economy, local vulnerability assessment and sustainable development of coastal and island communities and the environment. I have written three books including Maritime Security and Indonesia (Routledge, 2017), Indonesia and the Indo-Pacific (Routledge, 2023), and Port Security and Preman Organizations in Indonesia (ISEAS, 2023).
