Artist Statement

I’m Ken, and I began making short films during the chaotic year of 2023, when I found myself lost. While my friends pursued their goals abroad, I remained unclear about my own destiny. I slipped into self-reflection and questioned whether my decision to study film was the right one. Should I go the usual way, study business, have a steady 9-to-5 job, and just work oversea.

Graduation is a daunting reality. However, a pivotal moment came during the Artbeast event hosted by Sunway University and Lancaster University. Surrounded by student filmmakers, I discovered a shared sense of uncertainty. Suddenly, I wasn’t alone on my journey; I wasn’t the weird one.

During the course of the event, transformative experiences occurred. Nature embraced me and revealed its peaceful beauty. I realized the importance of stopping, accepting, and soaking in the tranquility of my surroundings. It was a revelation—a moment of deep happiness.

Inspired by this newfound clarity, I recognized the therapeutic potential of filmmaking. I began to think of my films as personal diaries—a means of capturing and expressing my emotions and thoughts. Thus, my short film script began to take shape, filled with reflections and reflections on my journey through life.

Growing up with limited access to modern entertainment, I discovered my passion for storytelling through the magic of movies on my family’s small television. After studying Mass Communication, I realized that my heart still belonged to filmmaking, so I studied Film at Sunway University. Now I am committed to using film as a powerful tool for connection and expression.
