6min 56s – 16:9

Synopsis

A short transgressive film concerned with how passage of time impacts our memory.

Artist Statement

‘Retrospect’ is a short transgressive film inspired by the unreliability of human memory and how the passage of time affects our memories. ‘Retrospect’ attempts to recreate how our memories function in real life in a visual format via the transgression of linearity and continuity. The film was written and shot in a traditional, chronological format and then rearranged in post-production to reflect how forgetfulness, disorientation and social pressure can affect and even alter our memories. ‘Retrospect’ aligns with the ‘untold stories’ theme as it brings attention to an ordinary and often overlooked element of life and reminds us of how extraordinary it really is. Memory is a critical tool in life, relationships and lived experience, and ‘Retrospect’ is its untold story.
