Irish Dreams (Sky Fong)

7min 27s – 16:9

Synopsis

Irish Dreams is composed of photos and videos that me and my girlfriend took on our trip to Northern Ireland. Through a series of experimentations, photos and videos are intertwined, where static photos are given movement to become video. The film is at its core a capture of our relationship, the memories that we have made together during this trip, while pondering the future of our relationship.

Artist Statement

Irish Dreams highlights the differing images of the nature and the city, where images of Belfast city and Irish nature are intercut with each other. This duality also exists in me and my girlfriend’s relationship, where I am from Hong Kong and she is from Lancaster. The film focus on the relationship human beings have with the nature and how human activities have changed the spaces we live in. The film has recurring images of greenery and water, making a linkage between such interconnectedness of the nature and me and Ellie’s relationship.

He has also worked on other productions as director of photography, including “The Monster You Are” and “White Daffodil”. His research and films are focused on dealing with musicals and movements of bodies, and especially how they relate to his personal experience as an immigrant from Hong Kong, which is evident in his dissertation film “Out of My Place”.
