When the value of a piece of paper can evoke and provoke catastrophic devastation on a precious rock that is home to man and beast, is there time for changes to be made?
Artist Statement
Broken, is a 12 frame-per-second (fps) short experimental stop motion film about our home planet, Earth, being destroyed as a result of human activities. It addresses the festival’s theme of Eco-Visions, because it is visually raising awareness to the conscious and subconscious collective human greed for money, and how said greed can blind us to the excessive exploitation of natural resources that we need to survive. The film is comprised of two animation techniques: Claymation and Cutout and utilises found footage which is superimposed throughout the animation.
Naomi Onakunle, is a third year BA Hons Film and Creative Writing student with a strong passion for animation and all things creative. She’s worked on various other student films and passion projects, as a sound recordist, producer, and as a cinematographer. Some of these films which have been selected for this festival includes, Platform (Sky Fong, 2023), and It’s Just a Parcel (Sam Turnbull, 2023).
Naomi’s submission, Broken, serves as her first attempt at creating an animated film, and she hopes to continue to grow and expand her techniques within the animation medium, as well as within the film industry as a whole.
