Accessible Mountains
The project prioritises the needs of people with disabilities, particularly those with mobility impairments, by proposing an inclusive environment that enables navigation and engagement with this difficult terrain. Rather than separating users by ability, it creates shared spaces and activities distributed along a hiking route, allowing people with and without disabilities to participate on equal terms. Activities such as kayaking are therefore embedded within the landscape as inclusive experiences rather than segregated provisions. Disability Sport Wales is envisioned as the client, supporting the development of an accessible adventure and rehabilitation centre that transforms the quarry into an architectural microcosm of the surrounding landscape. The project enables visitors of all abilities to experience challenge, exploration, and independence through carefully designed spatial interventions.
