Formed By Flow: Hydrotherapy within a living water system

Located on the eastern edge of Llyn Cwmorthin in Blaenau Ffestiniog, the hydrotherapy centre draws inspiration from the fragmented forms of quarry slate waste and the geology of the surrounding landscape. Constructed from locally sourced slate masonry and defined by a cascading roofscape, the building appears to be formed by the very fragments of its surrounding landscape creating a homogenous pallet. Lake water is integrated into a series of thermal pools that descend towards the shoreline, strengthening the connection between architecture and nature. Through hydrotherapy, wild swimming and communal spaces, the project promotes wellbeing while celebrating the site’s industrial heritage and ecology.
