The Lancaster Walking Seminar

Inspired by  http://walkingseminar.blogspot.co.uk/ and “following in their footsteps” before we find our own way. The Lancaster walking seminar is (also):

A MONTHLY WALK  DURING WHICH WE TALK-WALK ABOUT VARIOUS ISSUES CONCERNING ACADEMIC WORK. THE IDEA IS THAT TALKING-WHILE-WALKING ENHANCES THINKING IN WAYS NOT ATTAINABLE BEHIND A DESK OR IN A SEMINAR SITTING DOWN.

When to meet: The 2nd Tuesday of the month at 12

Where to meet: Bowland North Quad (outside Marcus Merriman Lecture theatre entrance – number 23  on http://www.lancaster.ac.uk/maps/campus.pdf )

Who’s invited? Anyone with an interest in academic work – students (postgraduate, undergraduate and research) and staff (academic and related).

The origins and inspirations come from social sciences, arts and humanities however it is definitely not exclusive to those and we welcome and hopes to promote  interdisciplinary exploration and discussion.

Mobilising methods as well as seminars:

Part of the idea with these is to take these walks as an opportunity to explore what else changes when you physically move a seminar around – and how we can effectively explore, document and tell some of the stories that unfold? The focus is on mobilising not only the seminar but the methods for documenting it, with a view to developing ideas, expertise and approaches for translating those into practical approaches for research practices.

Loose Associations:

The walking seminar is in (loose) association with the interdisciplinary Centre for Science Studies (CSS) and Centre for Mobilities Research (CeMoRe)

Hope to see you soon!

Dr. Steve Wright  (Lancaster Walking Seminar organiser)
