Experience the city<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
We recommend visiting the medieval Lancaster Castle<\/strong> behind the railway station. The castle was a working prison until 2011 and is still used as a court building. You can look around the castle courtyard for free and visit the cafe. The guided tour is excellent and allows you to visit the courtrooms, modern and medieval cells, and learn about the Pendle witch trials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The 54-acre Williamson Park<\/strong> is a short walk from the city centre. Atop the hill sits the Ashton Memorial, which offers panoramic views of the Morecambe Bay, Lake District, Yorkshire Dales and the Forest of Bowland. You can also enjoy the beautiful gardens, woodland walks, a bufferly house and mini zoo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n There are also museums<\/a> in the city where you can learn more about the history of Lancaster, including the Lancaster City Museum<\/strong><\/a> on Market Square and the Lancaster Maritime Museum<\/strong><\/a> on St Georges Quay along River Lune.<\/p>\n\n\n\n If you are staying for longer, you can take the train (or the bus) to Morecambe<\/strong><\/a> and visit the seaside. The extensive promenade offers stunning views of the Bay and, on a clear day, the hills and mountains of the Lakeland beyond.<\/p>\n\n\n\n We are within easy reach of the Lake District<\/strong><\/a> and Yorkshire Dales<\/a> National Parks<\/strong>. If you wish to see the best landscapes that England has to offer (we will not take comments!), pack a jacket and go explore!<\/p>\n\n\n\n On campus If you are staying on campus, you can use our Sports Centre (pay-as-you-play, not included in the registration).
