Travel

Lancaster is well-connected by rail and road. We include a selection of information below, and more information is available on the Lancaster University website.

Locations of interest in Lancaster (T: Lancaster railway station; B: Common Garden Street bus stop).

By bus

Buses to our Bailrigg campus run from the station (4/4X) every 30 minutes, and from the city centre (1/1A, 100, 41, 42) every few minutes. If you are arriving by train, it is usually quickest to walk to Common Garden Street (5 minutes) and wait for a bus there. Buses from there normally take around 20 minutes, and you will want to get off at the Underpass. The bus will cost £2 single (or £1 after 7pm) and can be paid by cash or contactless card payment.

By taxi

There are usually taxis waiting by the station exit on Platform 3. You can also call these numbers for local taxis: +44 (0)1524 848848; +44 (0)1524 32090. It will cost around £8 to get to campus.

By car

Parking on campus is included in your conference registration, but you will need to display a voucher. If you would like parking vouchers, please indicate when you register, and these will be available at the registration desk.

By air/Eurostar

The nearest airport is Manchester Airport. Trains run directly from Manchester Airport to Lancaster, but if you are arriving late in the evening or have a flight early in the morning, make sure you check that there is a train running.

You can also arrive at one of the London airports and transfer to London Euston for trains to Lancaster. If you are arriving by Eurostar, London St Pancras is a short walk from London Euston. Trains from London to Lancaster take 2.5–3.5 hours. Train fares from London are unfortunately quite expensive (cheaper Advance tickets, which allow travel on a specific train only, may be available if booked early), so it might be more cost-effective to transfer and arrive at Manchester Airport.
